How to place, edit, and cancel an order on ThndrX desktop

A guide to placing, editing, and cancelling stock orders on ThndrX desktop, including which actions are available for each order state.

Stock orders on ThndrX desktop are placed through the Order Pad on the Trade page.

After submission, available actions depend on the order state.

Orders can be managed from:

  • Trade Management on the Trade page

  • the Chart tab in the Insights widget

  • Open Orders on the Home page

Editing and cancellation are only available for specific order states.


Understanding order states

Each order on ThndrX has a status that shows the current stage of the order.

Pending submission

Pending submission means the order has been submitted through ThndrX and is still being processed before reaching the market.

A Pending submission order:

  • can be cancelled

  • cannot be edited

Pending

Pending means the order has reached the market and is waiting to execute.

A Pending order:

  • can be edited

  • can be cancelled

Filled

Filled means the full order quantity has been executed.

Editing and cancellation are no longer available after an order is Filled.

Partially filled

Partially filled means part of the order quantity has been executed.

The executed portion cannot be changed. The remaining unfilled portion continues according to the active order state shown on ThndrX.

Rejected

Rejected means the order reached the market but was rejected.

Editing and cancellation are not available for a Rejected order.

Cancelled

Cancelled means the order was cancelled before full execution.

No further edit or cancellation action is available.

Expired

Expired means the order reached the expiry date without completing execution and was closed.

Suspended

Suspended means open orders for the stock have been suspended by the exchange.

Available actions depend on the order status after the suspension is processed.


Placing an order

Stock orders are placed using the Order Pad in the right panel of the ThndrX desktop Trade page.

Step 1: Select a stock

Open the Trade page and select the stock to trade.

A stock can be selected from the Listing widget or another stock list on ThndrX.

Step 2: Open Trade mode

Open Trade mode in the right panel using either:

  • the Overview / Trade tabs at the top of the right panel, or

  • the Trade button at the bottom of the Overview widget

Trade mode contains the Order Pad and Market Depth widget.

Step 3: Choose Buy or Sell

Select:

  • Buy to place a Buy order

  • Sell to place a Sell order

Step 4: Choose an Order Type

Select:

  • Market

  • Limit

Step 5: Enter Shares or Cash

For a Market order, enter either:

  • Shares

  • Cash

The Order Pad calculates the corresponding value automatically.

For a Limit order, enter:

  • Shares

  • Limit Price

The percentage slider can also be used to select a percentage of available buying power or available shares.

Step 6: Choose Time in Force

Select the required Time in Force option.

Available options include:

  • Day

  • GTC

  • FOK

  • IOC

  • Date

Step 7: Set Execution Type

For a Limit order, set the required Execution Type.

AON — All or Nothing requires the full Limit order quantity to execute together.

AON is not configurable for Market orders.

Step 8: Add Stop Loss or Take Profit

A Stop Loss, Take Profit, or both can be attached when creating an eligible bracket order.

Step 9: Review and submit

Click Buy or Sell in the Order Pad.

The confirmation screen shows:

  • Order Type

  • Price

  • Shares

  • Cash

  • Thndr Fees

  • Third Party Fees

  • Total Fees

  • Total Cost

Review the order details, then confirm the order.

Submission only takes place after confirmation.

Editing an order

Editing changes the Price or Quantity of an existing order.

Editing is available only for orders in the Pending state.

A Pending submission order cannot be edited. A change required during Pending submission requires cancellation followed by a new order.

Editable fields:

  • Price

  • Quantity

Fields that cannot be changed after submission:

  • Order Type

  • Time in Force

  • Execution Type

Changing one of these settings requires cancellation of the existing order and submission of a new order.


Editing from Trade Management

To edit a Pending order from Trade Management:

  1. Open the Orders tab in the Trade Management widget.

  2. Find the Pending order.

  3. Click the edit icon.

  4. Change the Price or Quantity.

  5. Review the confirmation screen.

  6. Confirm the changes.

The edit only takes effect after confirmation.


Editing from the Chart tab

A Pending order price can also be changed from the Chart tab.

To change the price:

  1. Open the stock in the Chart tab.

  2. Find the active order line.

  3. Drag the order line to a new price level.

  4. Review the confirmation screen.

  5. Confirm the new price.

Dragging the order line changes the order price.

Other editable order details can be managed from the Orders tab in Trade Management.


Cancelling an order

Cancellation is available while an order remains eligible to be stopped before execution completes.

Orders in the following states can be cancelled:

  • Pending submission

  • Pending

Filled, Rejected, Cancelled, and Expired orders cannot be cancelled.

Cancellation is available from:

  • Trade Management

  • Chart tab

  • Home page


Cancelling an Order from Trade Management

To cancel an eligible order from Trade Management:

  1. Open the Orders tab in the Trade Management widget.

  2. Find the order.

  3. Click the cancel icon.

  4. Review the cancellation confirmation.

  5. Confirm the cancellation.


Cancelling an Order from the Chart tab

To cancel an eligible order from the Chart tab:

  1. Open the stock in the Chart tab.

  2. Find the active order line.

  3. Click the cancel icon.

  4. Review the cancellation confirmation.

  5. Confirm the cancellation.


Cancelling an Order from the Home page

Eligible orders can also be cancelled from the ThndrX desktop Home page.

To cancel an order from Home:

  1. Open the Home page.

  2. Open the Account tab.

  3. Find the Open Orders widget.

  4. Click the cancel icon on the order row.

  5. Review the cancellation confirmation.

  6. Confirm the cancellation.


FAQs

What can be done when an order is still Pending submission and the price needs to change?

A Pending submission order cannot be edited.

Cancel the Pending submission order, then place a new order with the required Price or Quantity.

What does AON mean on a Limit order?

AON means All or Nothing.

AON requires the full Limit order quantity to execute together rather than partially. AON is set through the Execution Type field for Limit orders.

Which order settings require placing a new order?

Order Type, Time in Force, and Execution Type cannot be edited after submission.

Changing one of these settings requires cancelling the existing order and submitting a new order.

How is an order price changed from the Chart tab?

A Pending order price can be changed by dragging the active order line to a new price level on the Chart tab. A confirmation screen appears before the new price is applied.

Where can an order be cancelled on ThndrX desktop?

Eligible orders can be cancelled from:

  • the Orders tab in Trade Management

  • the active order line on the Chart tab

  • the Open Orders widget on the Home page Account tab

Each cancellation requires confirmation before submission.
