Overview
If you hold ADX-listed stocks through Thndr, you are eligible to receive dividends automatically once your account is registered with the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX).
This article explains the types of dividends, how eligibility works, when to expect payment, and how dividends are delivered to your registered bank account.
Types of Dividends
Companies choose how to reward shareholders through either cash or shares. The type divident is decided by the company’s Board of Directors — you cannot choose between the two. You will receive whichever form the company has officially announced.
Type | What you receive | Where it appears |
Cash dividend | A cash amount per share held | Paid to your registered IBAN bank account |
Stock dividend | Additional shares in the company | Added to your portfolio |
The Dividends Timeline
Every dividend goes through four stages. Understanding the timeline is key to knowing whether you qualify.
Stage | What happens |
Declaration date | The company’s board formally announces the dividend — including the amount, the eligibility date, the ex-dividend date, and the payment date. |
Eligibility date (record date) | The company confirms who qualifies. You must be holding the stock by market close on this date to receive the dividend. Your shares don’t need to be fully settled — you just need to hold them. |
Ex-dividend date | The cutoff date for new buyers. Purchasing shares on or after this date means you will not receive the upcoming dividend. |
Payment date | The company releases the dividend. Thndr credits your account as soon as the cash or shares are received from the Central Securities Depository (CSD). |
Eligibility: Who Gets the Dividend?
To receive a dividend, you need to hold the company’s stock by market close on the eligibility date.
Action | Timing | Dividend status |
Buying | Before or on the eligibility date | ✅ Eligible |
Buying | After the eligibility date | ❌ Not eligible |
Selling | Before or on the eligibility date | ❌ Not eligible |
Selling | After the eligibility date | ✅ Eligible |
Receiving Your Dividend
Cash dividends — paid to your IBAN
Cash dividends from ADX-listed stocks are paid directly to the bank account IBAN you registered during ADX exchange registration. Dividends are credited automatically — no action is needed from you once your IBAN is registered and verified.
Important:
Cash dividends in ADX are automatically paid to your bank account. Thndr, as a brokerage, is not a part of this payment process. In order to check for dividends payment, contact in-app chat support and ask for your ADX NIN code. You will then use this code and contact ADX through their official mobile app or website to inquire about your dividends.
Your IBAN must be registered and valid before your dividend payment date. If your IBAN is not registered or has been rejected, your dividend payment may be delayed. Contact support via in-app chat if you need to update your IBAN.
Stock dividends — added to your portfolio
If a company distributes dividends as shares instead of cash, you’ll receive additional shares in proportion to what you already hold. These shares are added to your portfolio automatically.
Price adjustment on distribution day:
On the day a stock dividend is issued, the share price is adjusted downward to reflect the larger number of shares now in the market. Your total investment value stays the same — the drop in price per share is offset by the additional shares you received.
Example: You hold 100 shares at AED 40 each — a total value of AED 4,000.
The company announces a 25% stock dividend.
You receive 25 additional shares, bringing your total to 125 shares.
The price adjusts from AED 40 to AED 32. Your total value remains AED 4,000.
The stock chart may appear to show a sudden price drop on the dividend date. This is normal and does not represent a real loss — it simply reflects the adjusted price after new shares were issued.
What Can Delay Your Dividend
Thndr credits your dividend as soon as it is received from the CSD. Occasional delays can happen due to edge cases on the exchange or clearing side. If you believe you were eligible for a dividend and have not received it within a reasonable time after the payment date, contact support via in-app chat with the stock name and dividend details.
The timing of dividend payments is set by the listed company and ADX. Thndr cannot accelerate payments beyond what is received from the CSD.
Tracking Dividends
Thndr sends emails to eligible users with dividends distribution details as soon as users are marked eligible.
Dividend dates and details are set by the listed company and published on the ADX website. For full disclosure details, check the ADX official website directly.
