How to find Sharia-compliant funds or single stocks on Thndrapp

This guide explains the Sharia-compliant investment options available on Thndr and how to find them.

What is Sharia-compliance

Thndr offers Sharia-compliant investment options across both mutual funds and individual stocks.

Sharia compliance generally considers two areas: the activities a company or fund is exposed to, and how its finances are structured. This includes avoiding prohibited business activities and reviewing financial ratios, such as levels of interest-bearing debt, against Sharia screening criteria.

Sharia-compliant funds are overseen by a Sharia committee or supervisory board that reviews the fund’s investment strategy and holdings to make sure they meet the fund’s Sharia guidelines.

To see who supervises a specific Sharia-compliant fund, open the fund on the Thndr app, scroll down to the About section, and check the fund details.

The Sharia committee or supervisory board is listed there, where available.

You can also find the fund’s prospectus in the About section. Tap Prospectus to open it.

FAQs

Can I lose part of my principal in a Sharia-compliant fund?

Sharia-compliant investments involve sharing in investment risk, which means returns and principal are not guaranteed. This is one of the principles that distinguishes Sharia-compliant investing from products that promise a fixed, guaranteed return.

The level of risk depends on the type of fund:

  • Equity funds generally carry higher market risk because their value moves with the prices of the stocks they hold.

  • Fixed-income and savings funds generally have lower volatility than equity funds, but their value and returns are still not guaranteed.

  • Metal funds, such as gold funds, move with the price of the underlying metal and can experience periods of significant price changes.

If the value of a fund falls and you sell at that lower value, you may receive less than the amount you originally invested.

You can check how a fund has performed in the Thndr app by opening the fund and using the performance chart. Switch between 1W, 1M, 6M, 1Y, and 5Y to view performance over different time periods.

The exact percentage change for the selected period appears below the Last Trade Price.

Historical performance can help you understand how the fund has moved over time, but it does not guarantee future performance.
