Scholarly review: The Zakat Calculator has been reviewed and approved by Dr. Magdy Ashour, former Scientific Advisor to the Grand Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
What is the Zakat Calculator?
The Zakat Calculator is a tool available in the Thndr app that helps you calculate the zakat due on your wealth. The calculator covers all common asset types and automatically applies the correct zakat rate based on the current Al-Nisab.
How to access the Zakat Calculator
Open the Thndr app.
Tap My Hub.
Under Investment Services, tap Zakat Calculator.
How to use the Zakat Calculator
Step 1: Choose the year type
Select the calendar type on which you want to base your zakat calculation:
Year type | Zakat rate |
Hijri (lunar) | 2.5% |
Milady (Gregorian) | 2.577% |
Note: Calculating zakat according to the Hijri year is preferable. Calculating according to the Gregorian year is permissible. |
Step 2: Set your Hawl start date
Tap the Nisab date displayed in the calculator to set the exact date your Hawl began — that is, the date your wealth first reached the Nisab. Setting the Hawl start date allows you to calculate zakat for any past year, not just the current one.
Important: If your wealth drops below the Nisab at any point during the year, the Hawl resets. The Hawl starts counting again from the date your wealth reaches the Nisab once more. Zakat becomes obligatory only after your wealth has remained at or above the Nisab for one full, continuous year. |
Step 3: Enter your assets
Enter the value of each asset type in its designated section. Multiple entries can be added under each asset category.
Step 4: Calculate zakat
After entering all assets, tap Calculate Zakat to view the result.
Al-Nisab
Al-Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth above which zakat becomes obligatory. The Nisab is updated automatically in the calculator based on the current gold price.
Nisab type | Threshold |
Gold Nisab | 85 grams of 21-karat gold |
Silver Nisab | 595 grams of silver (925 purity) |
The Silver Nisab applies only when silver is the only zakatable asset you own.

Important notes
The Zakat Calculator covers general and common cases. Please consult a qualified scholar for specific rulings not addressed by the calculator.
Zakat is paid once per asset. Select the correct asset category and avoid entering the same asset twice.
Wealth must remain at or above the Nisab for one full, continuous year for zakat to be obligatory. A drop below the Nisab resets the Hawl.
