Why Was My Stock Order Rejected and How to Fix It

Learn why your order was rejected, whether the rejection came from Thndr or the exchange, and what you can do next

When you place an order on Thndr, it goes through two checks: first at Thndr, then at the exchange. If the order fails either checkpoint, it gets rejected.

If your order is rejected, no fees are charged and no changes are made to your account. Your account balance remains unchanged.

Why Can’t I Place an Order on Thndr

If your order cannot be placed after you tap Submit, it means Thndr’s automated controls stopped the trade before it reached the market.

Thndr may decline an order due to one of the following reasons:

  • Insufficient Balance
Your available cash is not enough to cover the stock price and estimated fees.
Resolution: Top up your wallet or reduce your order quantity.

  • Expired ID or Documents
Your National ID or other verification documents on file have expired.
Resolution: Upload updated documents in the app to restore access.

  • Account Not Activated
Your account hasn't been fully set up yet.
Resolution: Complete your Thndr account setup to start trading.

  • Not Yet Registered With the Exchange
You haven't been registered with the exchange yet.
Resolution: Top up your wallet to expedite registration.

  • Compliance Restriction
Your account is temporarily flagged for review.
Resolution: Contact Thndr Support via chat.

  • Something Went Wrong
This is a generic rejection message that can cover different issues, such as account setup mismatches or timing issues around market hours.
Resolution: Contact Thndr Support with your order details to identify the exact cause.

Why Your Order Was Rejected by the Egyptian Exchange (EGX)

If your order status went to Pending and then was Rejected, the Egyptian Exchange declined the trade based on market regulations.

The EGX may reject an order due to one of the following reasons. You can know the rejection reasons by clicking on the Rejected order from the Orders tab:

Account and Holdings

  • The Stocks Aren’t Booked for Sale
Your shares were not booked for sale. This is usually caused by an external outage at MCDR or a temporary technical issue.
    Resolution: Try again shortly

  • EGX Trading Account Suspended
Your EGX trading account is currently blocked, usually due to expired documents or a compliance issue.
Resolution: Contact Thndr Support to refresh your MCDR status.

Price Limits

  • Price Above Allowed Limit
Your limit price is higher than the maximum allowed for this stock. EGX applies daily price limits based on the previous close, and this applies to both buy and sell orders. Resolution: Lower your price and try again.

  • Price Below Allowed Limit
Your limit price is lower than the minimum allowed for this stock. EGX applies daily price limits based on the previous close, and this applies to both buy and sell orders.
Resolution: Increase your price and try again.

  • Order Must Be Placed At Auction Price
During certain sessions, orders must be placed at a specific auction price.
Resolution: Use the displayed price or wait for the next trading session.

Order Type and Timing

  • A Buy and Sell Order At the Same Limit Price
You already have an open order for this stock at this price. EGX doesn’t allow placing a buy and a sell order at the same price at the same time. This rule helps prevent self-trading.
Resolution: Cancel the existing order before placing a new one.

  • Market Orders Not Allowed During a Discovery Session
Market orders aren’t accepted during some trading phases.
Resolution: Switch to a limit order instead.

Stock Restrictions

  • Trading not allowed on this security
Trading in this stock is temporarily suspended by EGX, usually pending a corporate announcement or circuit breaker.
Resolution: Check EGX announcements for when trading will resume.
